Poems of the Day: 9/24/07

  • “Demolition Tuesdays”

    When the Earth
    Was Conceived
    From the Rainbow threads
    Of the Webbed Universe,
    The fly had granted the
    Spider and said:
“Spare Me, for I am not worthy of your Feast,”
Under the flattery was a coward,
    And under the Red Hourglass
    Was Vanity –
    So they decided upon Compromise
    And made Love.
    The Web trembled,
Releasing from its hands a dew drop –
    Sparkling into the Unknown.
    It lay dormant,
But over the course of Infinite Events,
    The Water-matter evaporated,
    Leaving behind Chromatic StarDust.
This Magic, after sewn together by Chemists,
Became the Home of our Souls –
But within this Home dwells an
    Entity;
    A LifeForce
    That controls all Heartbeats –
That whispers to the Drummer when to stop chanting,
And sings for the Deaf to Hear.
And when this Authority is crossed,
The Stag will shake its many antlers,
    And call for Wrath –
    And the Everlasting
    Voice will sing its
    Song to the Flower,
And whisper for Humanity to stop

Drumming.

  • “Jude”

    I twiddle with
    My little wooden
    Spoon,
    Playing:
    “Not Hungry,”
    As I solemnly
    Observed the stars,
    Questioning how
    One could have more than
    Five
    Points.
    Was I really of this

Ancient Following?

  • “The Affair”

    A dog
    I saw it today
    It walked –
    Lipstick out,
    And humped my neighbor’s leg:
    “With love to you,”
    The beast’s tongue flapped
    Out
    As he slobbered on Her
    Pinky toe,

Haloed by a wedding ring.
